Barbara Manning - One Perfect Green Blanket album flac

Barbara Manning's 1991 solo album.

Manning made her first solo album, Lately I Keep Scissors, recorded quickly in 1986 as an 8-track demo, which would eventually be released on Thomas' San Francisco label, Heyday in 1988. Terri Manning recorded some backing vocals and local musician friends pitched in, including drummer/singer Melanie Clarin, who would become a longtime collaborator on future projects. One Perfect Green Blanket – CD release compiled with Lately I Keep Scissors (Heyday, 1993). Under One Roof: Singles and Oddities (Innerstate, 2000). Super Scissors – three-disc re-issue of Lately I Keep Scissors andOne Perfect Green Blanket with previously unreleased bonus tracks, outtakes and demos (Rainfall, 2008). Chico Daze – previously unreleased songs recorded in Chico, CA from 2004–09, on Bandcamp, 2016.

One Perfect Green Blanket is the ideal introduction to Barbara Manning, long one of the Bay Area's finest singer/songwriters. The CD includes eight tracks, three of which were previously released on compilations and flexi-discs ("Smoking Her Wings," "Don't Rewind," and "Someone Wants You Dead") plus an additional 10 from 1988's Lately I Keep Scissors. One perfect green blanket"-as depicted on the cover-is a baseball diamond (the CD includes a broadcast sample from the San Francisco Giants Western Division win). While it lacks the epic scope of what I think's her best album, "1212," this double-header of a disc sounds satisfyingly consistent and, considering a probably miniscule budget, strong in both the guitar and the vocal departments. Barbara Manning's singing style may leave the uninitiated rather nonplussed.

Tracks 9 to 18 originally released as Barbara Manning's debut album 'Lately I Keep Scissors' on Heyday Records in 1989.

Barbara Manning is a modest genius. She has spent the better part of her musical career sharing the spotlight in various bands: 28th Day, World of Pooh, and as bandleader of the SF Seals. But it's as a solo artist, like on the miniaturist masterpiece One Perfect Green Blanket and also on 1212, where she has shown the full extent of her gifts. This compilation of singles and one-offs gives diehard fans an opportunity to have all of Manning's far-flung work on one album. For the uninitiated, it gives an overview of an eccentric indie internationalist with a penchant for New Zealand jangle-pop, British punk, and neopsychedelia. With her plainspoken delivery and skillful guitar playing, Manning brings a rough-hewn beauty to the 18 songs on Under One Roof. The six self-penned tunes are the nuggets here, with "Haze Is Free" and "Being Cheated" being standouts.
